Conference Program
IV International Sustainable Biofuels Summit 2008, Buenos Aires
22-24 October 2008, Buenos AiresWhat can you produce and deliver when, to whom and in what volumes and with what quality and environmental standards?
Farmers, forestry, financers, car and truck producers, I&D, universities, biomass owners and converters, fossil energy producers and distributors, NGO's, engine makers, biofuels producers and distributors, sugar and paper industry, waste treatment industry and all those who hold a real stake in biomass and biofuels, are kindly invited to come and attend the IV International Sustainable Biofuels Summit 2008 in Buenos Aires, where you can expect information on the newest global developments in 1st and 2nd generation feedstock, in their conversion processes and technology and in engine and fuel optimisation. We specially address sustainable aspects of the whole chain. And if you are looking for investments and business, this is the place to be in October 2008.
The overall context of the Summit will address (open) markets as biofuels industry has quickly become a global business, governmental support as well as investment opportunities in the Mercosur region as well as in Colombia, social awareness and promotion of biofuels consumption, greenhouse gas balance and energy policies of participating countries from around the globe. Participation of several government leaders is expected.
The Summit will have an important Expo Area - shared with other renewable energy formats like wind energy and photovoltaic amongst others, where you can show your products or services to a wide range of international stakeholders.
The Summit Programme will last for three days and will address:
Day I: Producing and managing feedstock resources, new resources, increasing yields, conversion technologies and feedstock flexibility and quality as well as end user technology will be the main course of the first Summit Day. Speakers will come from Europe, United States and Mercosur.
Day II: Conversion is the key word on Summit Day II, where technology improvements and new technologies for a wide scope of different first and second generation feedstock options for both alternative and synthetic fuels will be reviewed. On Day II you can expect an overview of different thermo-chemical, hybrid and biochemical ways of producing intermediate products, by products and of course biofuels going through gasification and generation of synthesis gas or using the Fisher-Trops method, handling triglycerides like algae and others, lignocelluloses from for example forest mass and a wide scope of other new options which are studied in many laboratories and companies all over the world. Goal is to give the best possible overview of who's doing what with existing technology, with what possible results and forecast, both technical and economical and who's working on future developments. You will also learn about other alternatives like butane and we will take a quick look over the fence towards hydrogen developments.
Day III: Fuel and Engine Optimisation is the lead during the third and last Day of this international SUMMIT. Day II will make clear how technically complex the biofuels business has become in little time, so imagine how petrol companies, car builders and engine builders are looking at all those developments which in itself are threats as well as opportunities to them. Those key stakeholders are standing between the governmental push for less CO2 emissions and the pull of the biofuels industry who claims its piece of the pie. How to handle blending, product quality, emissions with blending and so on? Key words on Day III are therefore emissions control, compatibility, blending and mixing, fuel use, storage and transport and process monitoring. Leading players from the fossil fuels industry, the car industry and the engine builders will explain which biofuels can become an integrated part of the chain, which hurdles has to be taken and within what timeframe.
2nd Workshop on Sustainable Biofuels Certification
On Tuesday the 21st of October, the day before the SUMMIT will start; a workshop on Certification of sustainable biofuels will take place with the collaboration of all before mentioned stakeholders as well as most relevant NGO's like Proforest, WWF, RTRS, RSPO and so on. Goal of the workshop is attending the need of the integration of sustainability standards into the whole chain of quality of biofuels, which now concentrates on technical and process quality. Without considering the global consequences of the development of biofuels as one of the alternatives to fossil fuels, biofuels will have little or no chance to develop at all. Summit Attendees will have free entrance at the Workshop.
Fact Finding Tour for Investors
Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st of October 2008-If you think about investing in biomass production or even buying production or even land (one might want to guarantee his feedstock supplies) and/or in conversion facilities for biofuels or in I&D, you can join the Fact Finding Tour to Argentinean country side, where local Argentinean government and agro and industry representatives will welcome you and show you around. A visit to the biggest biodiesel site in the world is planned as part of this tour. You will be flown in with Learjet, directly from Buenos Aires on Monday morning, so you should be in Buenos Aires by Sunday evening. You will spend the night from Monday to Tuesday outside Buenos Aires and we will fly you back on Tuesday afternoon so you will be back on time to attend the SUMMIT if you wish. A courtesy dinner from local government is scheduled on Monday evening. The forum is very limited and only open to interested and accredited top level parties, so please check availability and conditions directly with Secretarial Offices in Argentina, Spain or Germany. You can find the phone numbers and contact persons on www.biofuelsummit.info
The final programmes for the SUMMIT, EXPO, Workshop and site seeing tour will be published by the end of July 2008. If you feel you have knowledge or experience which could ad value to the Summit or the Workshop, don't hesitate to call the Secretarial Office. If you want to exhibit, please call now as available space is limited. If you want to become a SUMMIT or Workshop Sponsor, please also call directly with the Secretarial Office to work out the best collaboration formats.
