Indonesian and Brazilian key note speakers on Jathropha and ligno cellulosics confirm presence in Madrid

Indonesia and Brazil will send key note speakers to Madrid to address European audience on latest developments in the production of sustainable feedstock for the production of biofuels. Both Indonesia and Brazil are world leaders in the production of agricultural products like palm or sugar cane, which can be used for the production of biodiesel or ethanol (substitute for gasoline). Both countries are also involved in the development of so called second generation feedstock for biofuels, like jatropha (Indonesia) or ligno cellulosics (Brazil).

Key note speaker for Indonesia will be Dr. Rosdiana Soeharto, Executive Director of Indonesian Palm Oil Board. She will address Indonesian policy on sustainable development of the agriculture and will address specifically biofuels related projects like the jathropha project in Kalimantan.

Oscar Schweitzer, Survey’s representative in Brazil: “the Brazilian speaker will give a comprehensive overview of latest developments in lignocellulosics and will also speak about the present status and future of ethanol in Brazil”. Brazil is world leader in the production and use of biofuels. In fact the country does not use any traditional fuels for transport at all and has become recently a net exporter of ethanol.

Spain

On a national level, Spanish General Secretary of Industry, Mr. Joan Trullén Thomàs, will present the new Spanish policy on renewable energy and give some special attention to biofuels with the help of Mr. Juan Guía Garcia, general Assistant Manager of Biofuels of the Ministry of Industry. Those key speakers will be backed up by top management speakers from REPSOL, UNILEVER, the Spanish Petroleum Products Operators Association, the Spanish national Commission for Energy, the Spanish Hydrocarbons Logistic Company. The financial view will come from BANCO SANTANDER and environmental aspects will be handled by GREENPEACE top expert Mr. Wolfgang Richert.

Second generation feedstock for biofuels

The second conference day will enter in depth in first and second generation biofuels developments, with special emphasis on first generation financial aspects. Second generation feedstock for biofuels will handle waste-to-fuel, Algae, GTL and BTL, butane and ligno cellulosics.

International Workshop on biofuels certification

A special one day workshop on biofuels certification is planned in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia, BQ 9000 from United States, Spanish Biofuels Association, Proforest, Greenpalm, Biox Group, UTZ Certified, Unilever, Control Union, Ecofys and Intertek. Goal of the workshop, which targets al industry and governmental representatives who want to get a good overview of the subject, is to analyse most relevant developments on control and tracking systems, quality systems and the possibilities of their integration into a more comprehensive approach for biofuels certification. This work is necessary as many initiatives like bulk tracking or book and claim for example, are on the road, but never before they where put in “one room”. This workshop is a must for all involved in the production chain of biofuels.
