Uruguay: Biodiesel could be cheaper than
The Copagraan biodiesel plant, which started operations in Ombués de Lavalle last week, would market biodiesel at 25 to 26 Uruguayan pesos per litre, a price which would be placing biofuel below the price line of diesel fuel. This was stated by José María Nin, the company’s President, who declared that the refinery’s goal was that of placing biodiesel “at a price sensibly lower than that of diesel fuel, which sells at $29.60 per litre at present.”
The construction of the plant demanded an investment of USD 800,000 and its current processing capacity is of 7,000-8,000 tons of grain per year. Out of that milling total, 15% of the produce is crude soybean oil and the remaining 85% becomes soy flour.
Nin explained that the Copagraan project intends to make the producer participate "in an outsourcing process". That is to say, the producer shall deliver his grain and pay for the milling and receives in return vegetable protein and fuel. In this way, the agricultural producer would not pay any taxes and the biodiesel would be produced under competitive conditions.
Those in charge of this venture want to install a new plant which could be located in Paysandú, Young or at any of Soriano’s coops.
Spain: The number of petrol stations selling biodiesel on the rise.
The number of petrol stations in Spain where biodiesel can be purchased amounts to 477, that is to say, a 6.2% of the total number of petrol stations. Although this number is still on the rise, the difference between those stations selling biodiesel and bioethanol becomes significant, since only three of them do sell ethanol.
